The PEI Association of Community Living aims to strengthen capacities of communities to include and support people with an intellectual disability and their families in all aspects of community.
The ACL was formed in 1955 by dedicated family members and community supporters who had a vision to improve the quality of life for all Islanders with an intellectual disability.
We, as Community Living advocates:
1. Promote inclusion for people with intellectual disabilities in all services within the Community.
2. Assist parents and educators in the development of the Individual Education Plan (I.E.P), Individual Vocational Planning (I.V.P).
3. Assist our local associations in Wellington, Tignish, O''Leary, Summerside, 2 in Queens County and Southern Kings and Souris.
4. Monitor, lobby for, and respond to new legislation, policies, and budget allocations on the provincial and national levels.
5. Prepare and present position papers to municipal, provincial and federal government.
6. Lend toys, books, and games for the use with children who have special needs
7. Direct people to appropriate services
8. Assist in developing parent support groups.
9. Provide an empathetic and willing ear.
